Mayor’s Climate Change Fund and Home Upgrade Grant 2

The Home Upgrade Grant Phase 2 (HUG2) will be closing for applications at the end of September, so early applications from eligible residents are encouraged.

The Mayor’s Climate Change Fund (CCF) is still accepting applications and constitutes a great opportunity to improve community buildings’ energy efficiency through 50% match funding for eligible projects.

MAYOR’S CLIMATE CHANGE FUND 2020-2024 (CCF)

If you are a part of a

  • Voluntary and community group
  • Not for Profit organisation
  • Public sector including schools and parish council
  • Registered charity
  • Social enterprise

– and would like to improve your community group building’s efficiency while saving hundreds of pounds on energy costs, Bedford Borough Council wants to give a helping hand by providing 50% funding match towards projects such as:

solar panels, low energy lighting, upgrades to windows and doors, loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, natural daylight systems, rainwater harvesting systems, external and internal wall insulation, heating systems upgrade, boiler replacement, secondary glazing, solar thermal systems, wind and hydro turbines, and ground or air source heat pumps.

No EPC? No problem – we can contribute 50% towards the cost of a new energy certificate.

And eligible projects can receive 50% funding towards pre-application planning advice, too.

HOME UPGRADE GRANT 2 (HUG2)

  1. Nationally, fuel poverty is on the rise – 1.1 million more people live in fuel poverty this year compared to 2021, when the energy crisis started (NEF 2024 data). But HUG2 seeks to build efficiency and resilience by offering an opportunity to vulnerable, off mains gas heating, households to fund their home energy efficiency improvements, reducing their energy costs.
  2. With the recent uplift in income eligibility threshold to £36,000 from £31,000, 19% households nationally could be eligible for this vital fund. There is not much time left to help our residents, and funding is still available – please spread the word and encourage early applications, since it can take months to implement the improvements, due to the nature of the application process.
  3. I have attached an in-depth stakeholder guide, which helps you understand how to share information about HUG2 with residents in the community, get them engaging with the scheme and submitting applications if they’re eligible. This includes the customer journey from Agility Eco, Bedford Borough’s managing agent for the programme.
  4. The eligibility criteria and possible home improvement measures residents can receive are clearly stated on all materials. Please familiarise yourself with them to avoid any confusion, when interacting with potentially eligible residents.
  5. This scheme has the capacity to benefit many residents in the borough, so we strongly urge you to spread the word as much as possible. If you are interested, we can provide you with FREE social media tools and school packs – please respond to this email expressing your interest and it will be sent over to you. The stakeholder guide is intended for your reference only.
  6. To check their eligibility, residents can visit www.hugapply.co.uk, or call Agility Eco free on 0800 107 8883
